Golden sunset reflected across Bewl Water reservoir on a summer evening

The summer solstice falls on Sunday 21st June in 2026, and there are few better places to soak up the longest day of the year than 800 acres of open water and countryside. Daylight stretches deep into the evening, the reservoir turns gold, and the wide skies above Bewl put on the best sunset of the summer.

Make a weekend of the longest day

Start Saturday with the weekly open water swimming session from 9am to 10:30am, then take to the water by paddleboard or canoe as the day warms up.

As the evening draws out, follow the waterside walking trails for golden-hour views across the water, and refuel at the Waterfront before the sun finally dips behind the High Weald.

To make the most of the shortest night of the year, pitch up at the campsite from Friday 19th to Sunday 21st June and wake up by the water on solstice morning.
