Health and Safety

Safety is our top priority here at Bewl Water. All swimmers must complete an induction with our lifeguards and complete a questionnaire prior to their session, so please arrive 10 minutes early. This applies even if you have previously participated in open water swimming.

Safety and mandatory requirements:
  • Tow floats: These are required for all swimmers. If you do not own one, you can hire one for £5 during ticket purchase (subject to availability).
  • Brightly coloured swim hats: These are available for purchase from the Fishing Lodge; however, we encourage swimmers to bring their own due to limited stock.
  • Wetsuits: During the summer open water swimming season (May – September), wetsuits are not mandatory. For the winter season (October – April), wetsuits are required. Please note that swimmers must bring their own wetsuits, as we do not provide them on-site.
  • Minimum age: Swimmers must be at least 14 years old. Proof of age is required, and anyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult in the water.
  • Coaching: While we do not offer coaching, our facilities are ideal for both training sessions and leisurely swims. All sessions are supervised by fully qualified Open Water Swimming Lifeguards with support from the Hastings and St Leonards Voluntary Lifeguard Club.
