Fishing Column – Week One

This week, Bewl Water’s 40th fishing season has been enjoyed by many despite some very challenging conditions due to the hot still summer we experienced. Despite this, the water level has remained at over 70%, well above average for this time of year. The water temperature cooling in recent weeks has seen the sport pick up for any method and fly anglers with fish being caught in all areas of the reservoir, particularly Rosemary Lane and Chingley woods.

Bewl hosted the Bewl Bridge Fly Fishers annual Grand Max event on the 19th September with 65 anglers taking part in high winds. This lead to a mix of results across the teams with the winners ‘Team Grand Max’ victorious with a total weight of 28lbs and 14oz. The largest fish of 3lbs was caught by Harry Fox from Walthamstow Fly Fishers. The anglers enjoyed three meals throughout the day in The Boat House Bistro offering good food and respite from the wind.

Bewl Water has extended their predator fishing season this year with predator permits available for Pike and Perch fishing from 1st November until 31st January. Further information, prices and rules can be found on our fishing page.
