Bewl Belle Maiden Voyage

Visitors to Bewl Water can now enjoy their time there like never before thanks to the launch of two new craft – the 70-seater pleasure cruiser Bewl Belle, and a ferryboat service which acts as a water taxi.

The 42 foot Bewl Belle has just been approved by the Maritime and Coastguard Agency, and is now licensed to operate on the South East’s largest piece of open water.

The two man Bewl Belle crew will operate the refurbished vessel and take visitors on a 45 minute tour, leaving on the hour from the Waterfront Jetty close to the Waterfront Restaurant.

Passengers can enjoy a tour of the lake, or disembark or board at one of three purpose-built jetties at Hatheralls Bay, Ferry Point or Seven Pound Creek, meaning walkers don’t have to commit to tackling the entire 12.5 mile path around Bewl Water.

A series of packages are also available, with trips that include morning coffee and cake, lunch or afternoon tea, or a cruise around the lake followed by lunch at the Boat House Bistro.

The Bewl Belle is also available for group bookings.

Between cruises of the Bewl Belle, visitors can also hail the new ferryboat service from any of the new jetties by calling Bewl control on 01892 890000.

Andrew Daniells, Chief Operating Officer of Markerstudy Leisure, said: “These two new vessels will make a big difference for visitors to Bewl Water, whether they are 8 or 80 years old.

“When we bought Bewl in January, we promised to make it easier for visitors to get out on the water, and these new services do just that.

“The ferry service will be available to drop off or pick up visitors at any of the three jetties which are sited at roughly four mile intervals on the round Bewl track, making a walk or a cycle an option for nearly all our visitors. The taxi is also bike, pram and dog friendly.”

Prices for a cruise on the Bewl Belle are £6 for adults, £4 for children.

As well as the new cruiser and ferryboat, visitors can also spend time on the water aboard pedalos and rowing boats, or join the popular rowing and sailing clubs.
