The spirit of Dragon Boat Racing at Bewl returns for its 13th year at Bewl Water. All day activities on both days 10am – 5pm.
THE HUNT IS ON FOR TEAMS
“Hilarity for Charity” or “Splash for Cash” – however you look at it Funraisers Infinity Dragon Boat Festival is an event not to be missed!
Ever found yourself at a loose end one sunny summer weekend and fancied some fresh air and a fun activity? A bike ride perhaps, or a walk in the park? But no... you feel like something different. Well how about Funraisers Infinity Dragon Boat Festival, this year to be held on 11th/12th September at Bewl Water, Lamberhurst. Anyone can enter a team on either day for their own chosen charity.
Phil Jones, MD of Infinity Technology Solutions our new sponsor of the event, says, “The Dragon Boat Race should be on everyone’s calendar. It’s a great day out. Not only will you be taking part in a unique local event but you will also be helping to raise much needed funds for charity”.
We on the Funraisers committee couldn’t agree with him more. Over the last 12 years 10,000 paddlers have raised more than £1.5m for 200 charities. We thank Infinity for enabling us to launch again this year.
Why don’t you become a part of it and enter a team to race for a charity close to your heart or your child’s school PTA? All you need are 16 paddlers, and a drummer - though you race more than once in the day so subs are more than welcome. Teamwork, co-ordination and rhythm all help but many teams get by without any of them; fancy-dress is encouraged but all that’s essential is a sense of humour!
Alongside the racing is a full Funfest of activities including children’s play areas, bouncy castle, face-painting, rowing challenge, arena displays, climbing wall, bands and food village. All this makes it the perfect day out for the whole family and all for your own fantastic cause.
The ancient Chinese tradition of Dragon Boat Racing goes back more than 2,000 years to 01 AD. Shrouded in myths, legends and superstitions, one origin of the Dragon Boat Festival is in rain making magic. Dragon boat races were held in China in the height of summer, re-enacting the battle between Lung, dragon of the air and Le, dragon of the water. The two dragons were believed to have fought in the clouds and produced rain. Now this tradition leaves us enjoying a colourful and exciting spectacle in the ideal setting of Bewl Water.
So how about making this your office summer party? Or getting all your friends together for this instead of that big summer bbq you somehow never quite get round to? Funraisers is now taking entries for teams so hurry up and register before the spaces all get filled up.
