BLUE and BROWN TROUT STOCKED

A milestone has been reached this season in the re-introduction of home-reared brown trout to Bewl Water with the first of these stocked on 6th July from Bewl's own farm. The fish have made rapid growth in spring and early summer and approximately 400 brownies up to 2lbs have been be stocked at several points of the lake. Bewl Ranger James Garratt is delighted with the progress these fish have made and is also pleased that the farm is progressing well with its project of rearing indigenous brown trout, the progeny of fish caught in the feeder streams last winter, for re-stocking.

Some of the regular rods reported mayfly nymphs and adults just above Browns inlet with some trout having them in their stomach contents.

Biggest fish of the season 10lbs 10ozs Rainbow caught 20 April on a Yellow Booby, D15 line, 6lb leader by Henryk Pycz boat fishing near fish pens.

NEW WHEELYBOAT

MARCH 31st saw the launch of a brand new Wheelyboat at Bewl.  The 16' Coulam Wheelyboat is similar to the 15' Coulam boats which now make up the majority of Bewl's fleet and has an ingenius hydraulic platform which allows easy and safe disabled access from the jetty.  Sponsors for the boat included Southern Water and the Environment Agency.

2011 permit options continue to offer 8-fish Catch and Take day permit, a 4-fish Catch and Take evening permit plus, at proportionately lower costs, Day and Evening Sporting Brace permits which will allow anglers to Catch and Release but also to take two fish away.  When the second fish has been taken on a sporting permit fishing must cease.  Season Permit holders will be allowed to fish either for 8 fish to take away or on a Brace Sporting permit basis as they wish.  Any damaged fish must not be released and will count towards the limit. Evening permits will be available from 3pm.
Anglers are urged to complete their returns fully with details of fish released as well as fish taken, and any feedback on this matter - or indeed any other views or thoughts on the fishery - are welcomed. Please contact us on fish@bewl.co.uk
As previously all Brown trout taken should be returned to ensure that the native stock of Bewl brownies is not depleted further as we hope to commence the breeding programme soon. Your cooperation with this is much appreciated.

 USE of KILL CORDS

Each boat engine has a red ‘Kill Cord’ located on the front panel. One end of this has a plastic fork which must be inserted beneath the red button for the engine to run while the other end should be worn around wrist or clipped to a firm point on your clothing whenever the boat is underway. In the event of you falling from the boat while underway the cord will pull the fork from the red button stopping the engine.

This will ensure that the boat remains close to you as well as preventing the uncontrolled boat from injuring you or others.

PLEASE USE THE CORD WHENEVER YOU USE THE BOAT ENGINE BUT ENSURE THAT IT IS LEFT ATTACHED TO ENGINE AFTER USE

Early Morning Permits

For security reasons we regret it will no longer be possible to leave access to the Fishing Lodge open for early morning permits.  Anglers wishing to buy early morning permits must phone the Fishing Lodge on 01892 890352 before the day of their visit to purchase a permit - they will be given a permit number which must be carried when fishing.  There will still be six parking spaces available at the new Outdoor Centre - please park away from the building at the end nearest the A21.  BBFC club members are reminded that they may buy books of permits which can be self-validated when used.
